LIST OF DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR AN H-1B
VISA
After the INS approves the H1-B visa petition,
which has been filed by the U.S. employer, the beneficiary
must apply for the H-1B visa at a United States
Embassy or Consulate abroad. He/she must carry the
following documents with him when going for the
visa interview.
1) Passport that is valid for at least six months
more.
2) Form
DS-156 duly completed and signed.
3) Form
DS-157 duly completed and signed. (This form
is for all male applicants between the ages of 16
and 45)
4) Recent color photo – 1.5 x 1.5 inches.
5) Original Form I-797 (Notice of Action).
6) Form I-129 (Petition) including the letter,
which describes the proposed duties.
7) Letter of Offer from U.S. Employer
8) Letters verifying applicant’s employment
history and specific work skills (i.e. Reference
letters).
9) Original Bachelor’s Degree along with
mark sheets.
10) Official Evaluation of educational and work
credentials.
11) Relevant Diplomas or Certificates.
12) Visa fees (according to each Consulate’s
rules)
If the spouse and any dependent children are accompanying
the H-1B visa holder, they qualify for an H-4 visa,
provided that the marriage and birth documents are
in order.
The following documents are required when
applying for an H-4 visa:
1) Original Form I-797 (Notice of Action) of the
H-1B holder.
2) Photocopy of the principal applicant’s
valid H-1B visa.
3) Marriage certificate along with wedding photo
album.
4) Birth certificate of each child.

to check with the particular consulate, to which
you will be applying for your visa, for their individual
requirements.
